Who We Are
MidWest Behavioral Management (MWBM) and Geriatric Psychiatric Development (GPD) have jointly established a specialized behavioral and psychiatric consulting firm dedicated to addressing the unique needs of underserved adult and senior populations. MWBM, founded in 2018, and GPD (formerly Healthcare Business Development Corp., established in 1986), operate nationally, partnering with individuals, hospitals, healthcare systems, and senior housing operators to deliver the highest quality behavioral and psychiatric inpatient and outpatient services. Our leadership team boasts over 45 years of highly successful experience, with expertise in developing, organizing, leading, and managing acute care inpatient hospitals and outpatient programs at the highest standards, with a particular focus on senior care in the past two decades.
We offer comprehensive services, including the complete development of facilities and programs from inception, as well as strategic planning, site selection, building design, construction or renovation, startup, operations, compliance, interim and turnaround management, and ongoing operational support, alongside feasibility studies, market assessments, and financial improvement initiatives.
Our unparalleled expertise in psychiatric healthcare is rooted in over 75 years of combined experience as planners, developers, owners, CEOs, clinical experts, and administrators of inpatient acute care and psychiatric hospitals, residential facilities, and outpatient services, including Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP).
Areas of Expertise
With locations in Indianapolis, IN and New York, NY, the partners at MWBM and GPD have collectively owned, led, managed, and operated behavioral and acute care psychiatric programs and hospitals, including one of the leading geriatric care organizations in the US, prior to founding our company. Our team brings extensive experience as CEOs, executive officers, directors, and senior managers of both non-profit and for-profit acute care hospitals, geriatric psychiatric hospitals, a publicly traded managed care company, community health centers, LTACs, inpatient and outpatient facilities, rehab centers, ambulatory surgical centers, residential care facilities, CCRCs, and physician offices.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Aggressive marketing strategies for a new (and existing) psychiatric facility are essential for success before the facility opens. Our senior partners have extensive experience in helping new behavioral health programs successfully launch. We, too, have started, marketed, managed, and operated new psychiatric companies and facilities, which uniquely qualifies us to assist new behavioral health or psychiatric facilities. Behavioral health business development services include:
More than just numbers and geo-coded maps, we transform our research and multi-state experience into crucial business insights that developers, operators, investors, hospitals, or health systems can effectively use to discover new markets.
A Note About Constructing a Facility
Construction requirements for inpatient psychiatric facility bed units are more detailed and significantly more expansive to meet TJC and CMS compliance than even general hospital acute care units. Planning for inpatient psychiatry requires extensive knowledge to properly evaluate plans for building new structures or renovating existing ones, including SNF and ALCs for this purpose. Our team has many years of expertise and up-to-date knowledge of new contemplated regulatory changes required to ensure appropriate property planning, construction, and opening approvals.
In cases where state approval is required for new or expanded psychiatric facilities, our consultants can complete the necessary Certificate of Need (CON) application and assist with the approval process. The CON mandates that owners and sponsors secure state approval before commencing projects, such as psychiatric intellectual disability or behavioral inpatient services, certain ambulatory services, major capital expenditures, and long-term care facilities.
Our leadership's extensive experience in obtaining Certificates of Need for inpatient psychiatric hospitals brings practical knowledge to the CON preparation and application process. We address each state's unique criteria, which typically include:
